Alonso sees improvement: '6 months was different here'
Fernando Alonso had a good qualifying session for the Japanese Grand Prix. The Spaniard may start from P5 during Sunday's race. He is therefore happy and conveyed that when speaking to Viaplay.
In qualifying, Alonso has often competed fairly high this season. In Bahrain, the Aston Martin driver started from P6, and in Saudi Arabia, he started from P4. Still, he has only 16 points to his name after three races, often dropping back in the race. So far, his fifth place in Saudi Arabia was his best race result.
Alonso happy with qualifying
In Japan, Alonso may start from the same fifth spot. He is therefore happy: "I think the car really was fun to drive Now qualifying, obviously with low fuel and new tyres, it's always fun. But yeah, we were quite competitive, I felt quite competitive."
He continued: "I think there was not much left in the car, and in Q3, I pushed both laps to the limit, and yeah, I’m happy with P5, four-tenths from pole, but six months ago we were 1.5 seconds from pole position. So we are moving in the right direction, but we still. We still need to take a few more steps."
