Verstappen makes separate statement: 'Car feels like a boat then'
Max Verstappen has spoken out in the past about the cars that are being driven under the 2024 regulations. He thinks the cars from the old regulations like 2021 are better. In Japan, however, the new cars come into their own because of the many high-speed corners. Verstappen agrees but argues that the car is not as good in low-speed corners.
On track performance, the Dutchman has nothing to complain about. For the past two years, Verstappen has already been successful at Suzuka. Tomorrow, he will start from pole position, with teammate Sergio Perez behind him.
Verstappen has generally had a lot of success since the regulations were changed in 2022. The new generation of cars was supposed to ensure that all teams would be closer together, but things have become less exciting in the battle for the championship. Already twice, the Dutchman became an overpowering champion during the current regulations, and in 2024, a third title could well be added. This would bring Verstappen's total, adding the 2021 championship, to four world titles.
Verstappen makes remarkable statement about current F1 cars
Yet Verstappen has criticised the current generation of cars before. In Japan, he is asked about how he envisions the car's characteristics in Japan: "The high-speed corners with these cars are quite good, but at low speed, it does feel like a boat. Luckily there are not too many low-speed corners around here, and actually, I think in an F1 car anyway, high-speed corners are more fun. The old cars were a bit more agile, but this car definitely generates a lot of downforce in the high-speed corners."
