Marko revisits future Verstappen at Red Bull

Is there something going on between Mercedes and Verstappen? Marko: 'Should ask Wolff'

5 April at 06:58

Helmut Marko was again asked about Max Verstappen's future at Red Bull Racing ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix. The 80-year-old advisor does not really want to say anything about it, but does so indirectly. A departure of the triple world champion is still not completely out of the question, according to Marko.

Even if Verstappen wins the fourth Grand Prix of the season, reports will continue to emerge about Verstappen's uncertain future at Red Bull.

Rumours about a switch to Mercedes do not seem to be going away either. Is there actually something going on between the Verstappen camp and the German formation? "You'll have to ask Toto Wolff about that," was Marko's short answer to OE24. And whether it is conceivable that Max will leave for another F1 team? "I'm not thinking about that at the moment. But we will see."

Vettel's return

On paper, Wolff has the necessary options to replace Lewis Hamilton in 2025. Besides Verstappen, Carlos Sainz, Kimi Antonelli and perhaps Sebastian Vettel are also candidates. Does the Austrian talent scout think his former pupil will return to Formula 1? "He does want that. Vettel and Antonelli are names with a great past and possibly a great future. But both don't have the level of Max Verstappen."
