Fernando Alonso wants to sign a contract with Red Bull Racing. GPblog has learned that rumours of a switch for the Spaniard are coming from the Spaniard himself.

Red Bull Racing have a seat available for 2025, and as the best team on the grid, they have many options to choose from. With Max Verstappen, Red Bull has one driver locked in until 2028, but they can pick the best available driver for the other seat. According to Horner, Perez himself holds the keys to keeping his own seat.

As Red Bull Racing is the reigning world champion and can offer security of a competitive seat for 2024 and 2025, many drivers will be vying for a spot at the Austrian racing team. Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda are in the lead. They want to show themselves at Visa Cash App RB for a step up.

Why Alonso would want to go to Red Bull

Horner already revealed in Australia that Red Bull Racing, however, is also looking at drivers who are not in Red Bull Racing's programme. Carlos Sainz leaving Ferrari, for example, but Fernando Alonso is also available. The two-time world champion is still driving for Aston Martin this year and openly expresses his preference for a longer stay with the Silverstone-based team, but in reality, things are a bit different.

On Monday, rumours emerged in the German media that Christian Horner would be fully committed to Fernando Alonso's arrival. He would want to show that nobody is bigger than the team and Red Bull Racing can become world champion even with a driver other than Max Verstappen. However, GPblog has learned that none of this is true.

In fact, it is Alonso himself who is trying to spread these rumours. Alonso is said to be looking for a new deal for 2025 and sees an opportunity to win a third-world title at Red Bull Racing. GPblog asked Red Bull Racing for a comment but has not received a response yet.
