Victory gives Ferrari energy: 'Red Bull make more mistakes under pressure'
- Ludo van Denderen
It was a proud moment for the equally proud Ferrari: at a time when Max Verstappen was not playing a significant role due to a failing braking system, the Italian team managed to take full advantage. Whether Ferrari is really back at the top after the one-two in the Australian Grand Prix, time will tell. The fact is that after Carlos Sainz's win, confidence has increased considerably at the Scuderia.
To be successful in Formula 1, that is important, Frederic Vasseur stated after the end of a race that will remain in the memory of Italian fans for a long time. "Confidence is a huge part of the result in our business. And I think we are building up the confidence over the last months. That it was already the case in the last part of the season last year," Vasseur said.
Vasseur wants to keep Red Bull under pressure
For Vasseur, the weekend in Melbourne was proof that Ferrari, moreover, is starting to become a well-oiled machine. Indeed, everything fell into place in Australia, resulting in victory. "I'm not sure that we will be able to do it every single weekend, but when we are putting everything together. We can put them [Red Bull Racing] a little bit under pressure, and it's when they are under pressure that they will do more mistakes. That means that we have to continue in this direction."
In particular, it seems important for Ferrari that tyre management has come under better control. "I'm not sure that we can take it as a direction for the development. What is true is that last year the main issue was the fact that the car was very difficult to drive in the race. Then you had to do a stop, you were doing mistakes, damaging the tyres. And then this kind of negative spirit. This year it's much easier."
