The Australian Grand Prix ended dramatically due to George Russell's heavy crash. Fernando Alonso now has to speak to the stewards, after which it will be determined whether or not the Aston Martin driver was at fault for the incident.

Alonso to the stewards after Russell's crash

On the final lap of the Formula 1 race at Albert Park, Russell crashed heavily, leaving his Mercedes half on its side. The cause was not immediately clear, but race officials announced after the GP that Fernando Alonso was under investigation.

Onboard footage shows that Alonso went off the gas on approach to turn six, considerably more than he did the lap before. For that action, the 42-year-old Spaniard has to be taken to the stewards, as it may have been a brake test. Alonso did report on the board radio that he was having problems while accelerating and that he could not go full throttle, so there may be extenuating circumstances. At 17:20 local time, he has to report to the stewards.
