F1 Drivers' Standings | Verstappen leads after crushing win in Bahrain GP

2 March at 17:26

Little excitement but an extremely dominant win for Max Verstappen in the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Dutchman continued his winning streak from last year and recorded his eighth victory in a row. His win puts him automatically at the top of the Formula 1 championship in 2024.

The tone is set for the 2024 F1 championship. Verstappen continues where he left off, continuing not only his run of wins but also the number of races he leads the championship consecutively. With 25 points plus a bonus point for the fastest lap, he leads ahead of Red Bull Racing teammate Sergio Perez.

Behind Perez is Carlos Sainz, who drove a rock-solid race in which he kept up nicely with the Mexican's RB20. Behind him is Charles Leclerc, who had anything but a trouble-free race. The same goes for George Russell, who finished fifth and thus also occupies that spot in the drivers' championship.

On P6 is Lando Norris, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri. Aston Martin drivers complete the top ten with Fernando Alonso in ninth and Lance Stroll in 10th.
