The tests are only just underway for the 2024 season, yet the 2025 season continues to occupy minds. Following Lewis Hamilton's announced switch to Ferrari, the question is who will sit next to George Russell in the vacant Mercedes seat from next year onwards. Fernando Alonso is mentioned, the name of Alex Albon included in this conversation at times. But who it will be?

In any case, the speculation has begun. Of course, everyone is also curious to know who Russell would want next to him? Smart as the Briton is, he does not immediately say his thoughts. He did, however, praise the departing Hamilton.

"It's going to be an interesting few months to see what happens," Russell told reporters on Thursday. "But from my side, I've been teammates with arguably the greatest driver of all time for the past two years. I've got no concerns at all who lines up alongside me."

Russell wants to be tested

Russell continued: "I want to be tested against the very best. And I feel that's what I've had the last two years. Whether it's an experienced driver or a young driver, I feel that personally, I'm in a great position to help push the team forward and go into this next chapter for the team."
