who could be horner's successor at red bull racing

Red Bull has launched an independent investigation about whether Red Bull Racing team prinipal's, Christian Horner's should keep his position at the team. This is because there has allegedly been inappropriate behaviour from the Briton. Should Horner have to leave, who could take over from him?

The allegations towards Horner seem to be very serious. For instance, he is said to have already been asked to step down from his position. This he refused. Now the reports of the inappropriate behaviour seem to stem from a power struggle between Horner and Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko.

At the moment, Horner is still performing his duties. Indeed, he was still representing Red Bull Racing's interests at an F1 committee meeting in London on Monday. Horner has reportedly lost the support of the Austrian side. Whether the Thai side, which owns 51% of Red Bull, continues to support him probably depends on the results of the independent investigation.

Who could become Horner's successor?

According to Motorsport-Magazin, Helmut Marko has previously indicated no interest in Horner's position. So that leaves it between two men: Pierre Waché, technical director of the team, and Jonathan Wheatley, the porting director. The most logical option between the two is Wheatley, so that Waché can continue to focus on the technical development of the car. Whether Wheatley will actually take over Horner's spot remains to be seen.
