Christian Horner is furious about the allegations of inappropriate behaviour, British newspaper The Daily Mail reports. According to the tabloid, the team boss responded with the word "nuts", when a journalist from The Daily Mail questioned the matter. The newspaper also claims to know how these allegations came about.

According to Horner's defenders, he is the victim of an internal power struggle within the wider Red Bull family. When Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz was alive, Horner could count on the Austrian's unconditional support.

'Lawyers call case slander'

The Daily Mail writes: "Horner's defenders say the accusations are smears aimed at unseating him from power in an attempt to wrest control to Salzburg." The Austrian city is home to the energy drink manufacturer's headquarters.

Incidentally, the British newspaper also claims that the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf had been threatened with legal action if they had made the allegations public. In the end, it was F1-Insider that broke the news first, followed soon after by De Telegraaf.
