Max Verstappen turned out for PSV partly because of Jos

Jos responsible for which club Max Verstappen supports: 'Then I went along'

Max Verstappen is a football fan besides being a Formula 1 driver. PSV Eindhoven is his favourite club and that is no secret either. The Dutchman tries to follow as many of the club's matches as possible in between travelling. How did the love actually develop between Verstappen and PSV? Jos Verstappen played a big role, it turns out.

"That originated with my father during the time he was sponsored by Philips," the 26-year-old driver explained to Formule1.nl. "At that time, he was regularly invited to PSV matches and sometimes I went along. Gradually a certain bond then just grows, a click, and you can also associate yourself with that club," the Dutchman explained.

Why PSV and not Ajax?

"PSV suits me better than, say, Ajax," the three-time Formula 1 world champion continues. "The Amsterdam mentality is different from the Eindhoven warmth. And Limburg is of course also closer to Brabant, in terms of distance, but also in terms of mentality," the Red Bull Racing driver concludes.

Prior to last season's Mexican Grand Prix, Verstappen was told that 'his' PSV had won 5-2 against Ajax, and he was only too happy to let them know that. There is plenty to cheer for Verstappen this football season, as his team is still unbeaten at the top of the Eredivisie, and are still playing in the Champions League.
