Nyck de Vries' season ended rather abruptly when he had to make way for Daniel Ricciardo at AlphaTauri. Many will say that the Dutchman was not given a fair chance because he was immediately brought in as a leader and was not really treated as a rookie. In an interview with De Telegraaf, De Vries says he does not think so.

"That's not how I look at it," De Vries said. He continued: "I am a perfectionist, so there are always situations and moments where, in hindsight, I think: I could have done that better. In the end, I think I was not quite in place there at that moment. It just didn't work."

The 28-year-old driver is very reasonable regarding his short F1 adventure: "Formula 1 is something I dreamed of for so long and then it stops so soon. That is a huge disappointment. But it is part of life and also a bit part of the sport. That may sound very rational, but that's how I really feel. I embrace the things that have come my way again now."

Formula E comeback

The Dutchman is not going to sit back. He will drive in Formula E again from 13 January for the Mahindra Racing team. The new season will kick off in Mexico City. De Vries has managed to broaden his vision of motorsport in his racing career: "When you grow up as a young driver, Formula 1 is your only goal. The crown jewel of our sport. But I have learned and realised that there is more than that," De Vries said. "Personally, I enjoyed Formula E and the WEC immensely, so I'm looking forward to that immensely now. Motorsport is more than Formula 1, although I understand that the general public might see it differently."
