We are used to Max Verstappen winning titles in unusual ways. He won his first on the last lap of the last race, his second in Japan after much uncertainty, and this season, he won his third world title on Saturday. If it had been up to the Dutchman, he would have won it on Sunday.

It is clear that Verstappen is no fan of sprint weekends. He has expressed his dissatisfaction with it before. He is not happy about the fact that he won his third title during a sprint weekend.

World title on Sunday

He indicated to the BBC Chequered Flag podcast that if it had been up to him, he would have won the world title on Sunday. This would not be because he is better on Sundays but because if he had the reins, there would be no sprint weekends anyway.

Still, the Dutchman says he is okay with it. He wanted to close the deal as soon as possible and not wait until Sunday. He did call his Sunday in Qatar a lot more enjoyable because he already knew he had won the world title again. So all's well that ends well.
