Lewis Hamilton losing his talent? 'Ridiculous to say that'
- Ludo van Denderen
In the shadow of Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton acted at a good level in 2023. The Briton - already waiting two seasons for another Grand Prix win - finished third in the championship behind both Red Bull Racing drivers. The driver himself does not think that is the place he gets into his Mercedes for. But that Hamilton got third in ther championship is a telling sign, according to Timo Glock.
The former Formula One driver and current analyst saw last season - in what was a tough year for Mercedes - how Hamilton was still the best-of-the-rest: "It makes me laugh that people are saying Lewis has lost his talent. That is ridiculous. How can he? It is impossible. That is not the case. Maybe if he is over 50. But Lewis is still there and if he has the package, he is able to be world champion again," Glock told BettingSites.co.uk.
Glock would have liked Ferrari for Hamilton
Hamilton will also drive for Mercedes for the next two seasons. After lengthy negotiations, the Briton extended his commitment with the German team during the 2023 season. Secretly, Glock regrets that Hamilton had not opted for a final adventure elsewhere on the grid, although the German also realises that Mercedes is probably the best place for the seven-time champion to fulfil his ambitions.
"He knows exactly what he has there. Maybe it would have been cool to see him in a Ferrari. But if you look at the facts the biggest possibility for winning the championship is with Mercedes because he was not going to be joining Red Bull. The decision for him was right to stay where he is," Glock said.
