On Friday night, Max Verstappen was officially crowned Formula 1 world champion for the third time at the FIA Prize Giving Gala, which took place in Baku. The Red Bull Racing driver is known for his level-headedness but admits that there was a moment when he did realise how special his achievements were his team in 2023.

Verstappen realised what he has achieved with Red Bull

"We were on a great roll and you want to perform every single time, every single race weekend," Verstappen looks back on his successful year in F1 after receiving his third World title. The three-time world champion generally keeps his cool, yet there was a moment when he realised how special the 2023 season was.

"I think it did hit me a little bit more once I was standing on the podium in Abu Dhabi. You realise the season is over, you don't get to drive this car anymore, unfortunately. It's been incredible. It's been a lot of great fun as well to work with everyone," continued the Dutchman, who still feels completely in place at Red Bull.

"Of course, we all want to win, we want to do the best we can. But when you're travelling around so much all over the world, you want to also do it with a great group of people, and we definitely have that at Red Bull. Extremely proud of what we have achieved this year. But of course, I hope it doesn't stop here," said the three-time world champion.
