Max Verstappen is a big fan of long-distance racing and it seems certain that the Dutchman will try to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans once after his Formula 1 career. Possibly, he will form a superteam with Fernando Alonso. The first exploratory talks on this have already taken place.

At the Honda Thanks Day, the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans comes up for discussion. "Well, I've been speaking to Fernando about it. He said he said he would only want to do it with me again," Verstappen said about Alonso. "So I was like, wow, that would be really cool."

The 24 Hours of Le Mans sometimes coincides with a Formula 1 Grand Prix, although this year was not and will not be the case next year. Still, for now these are just plans for later.

There is one challenge for Verstappen, though. There is a minimum weight requirement and so it helps if drivers are not that heavy. "I'm quite a heavy driver. So I need to find light teammates to compensate, but the Fernando is quite light so it will be quite good. But then we need to find another one."

Alonso already won the 24 Hours of Le Mans once with Toyota. He formed the winning trio in 2018 with Japan's Kazuki Nakajima and Switzerland's Sébastien Buemi in the car bearing start number 8.
