Lewis Hamilton: did he or did he not approach Red Bull Racing? Was there or was there no contact? Or was it the Austrian racing team that approached the seven-time world champion? Nobody seems to know, and Toto Wolff, with his statements from Abu Dhabi, makes it all a bit more complicated.

The mud-slinging continues between Red Bull Racing and Mercedes. A relative calm prevailed between the two rivals this year, especially as tough duels on track also remained out due to the big difference in performance between the RB19 and W14. Then, on the last weekend of the season, what we have seen many times in previous years happened anyway.

What was the situation again?

- Horner accuses Hamilton
- Hamilton denies
- Horner debunks Hamilton's denial
- Marko accuses Hamilton
- And now the next chapter: what about it according to Wolff?

Wolff opens an attack on Horner

The Mercedes team boss does not really understand what Horner is trying to achieve with his statements. He spoke to Speedcafe"I just don’t know what drives the guy. We just don’t understand his thinking to come up with these things." The two team bosses are not each other's greatest friends and have been at odds with each other before.

Wolff then explains what (he believes) really happened: "What happened is that Christian, through an agency that we work with, wanted to have Lewis’ contact details to speak about the seat. That’s how the whole thing went. It was Christian enquiring about Lewis’ availability. Lewis had an exchange with Christian, which he immediately told me about, and which was not about a seat but it was just blah."
