Drive to Survive has been a household name in F1 since the 2018 Formula 1 season. The series, which can be streamed on Netflix, looks at various factors in Formula 1. In a podcast at P1 with Matt & Tommy, Carlos Sainz talked about how Netflix went about making the series.

The arrival of Drive to Survive brought many new fans to Formula 1. Yet not everyone was happy with the series. Max Verstappen found Netflix's methods annoying, so he decided not to cooperate until 2021. The two parties have since worked together again, and so Verstappen will again be seen in the Netflix series next season.

Sainz on how Netflix works

Still, you always have to watch what you say when Netflix's cameras are there, Sainz says: "Once you have a Netflix camera following you, how natural are you, or how explicit are you going to be explaining things. You know that camera is there. "

"Netflix follows us two or three weekends per year full time. Then they are everywhere. They put the mic on, and you don't even remember you have it on [sometimes]. It's fine line of how much you want to show, but also the thing that you show to be true and real. I don't know where that limit is. I'm pretty sure everyone will be playing a role, for example [someone thinking] in the briefing 'I'm going to talk more' and everyone becomes an actor," Sainz stated.
