Red Bull technical director: 'Don't have magic trick at DRS system'

Red Bull Racing is incredibly dominant in 2023. The team of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez won all (sprint) races, often even by a huge margin. The top speed of the RB19 with the DRS opened is particularly impressive, but according to technical director Pierre Waché, there is no magic trick involved in Red Bull's DRS system.
DRS Red Bull not 'magical'
It is very striking that the RB19 with DRS open is so much faster than any other car in the Formula 1 field. In an interview with L'Équipe, Red Bull chief Waché elaborates on the strong point of the car. "Our DRS is absolutely not magic. It obviously does not open further than at other teams."
"If it is more effective with us, it is because it just works better with the concept of the car. Even when we have the rear wing closed, we already don't have that much drag and then when it opens, it gets another boost," Waché says.
Red Bull floor works with DRS system
According to Red Bull's technical director, the much-discussed floor under the Red Bull car, which seems much more complex than other teams' floors, is very important for more effective DRS. "The idea is absolutely not to put a bigger rear wing on it to increase the DRS effect. The optimisation has been done with the floor: we create a lot of downforce in the corners when the DRS is closed, but when the DRS is active we actually have very little downforce. A DRS that opens further is useless for us, that actually reduces the effect and increases drag."
