Former F1 driver Nyck de Vries may be making the move to 'the land of the free'. The Dutchman was named as a possibility for a seat in Indycar next season, according to Racer.com

De Vries drove 11 races in the pinnacle of motorsport. He had a very successful foray at Williams, where he finished right in the points at Monza, and saw that rewarded with a multi-year plan at AlphaTauri. But nothing was further from the truth. After just ten races, the Dutchman got the sack from Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko. De Vries is currently looking at his options outside Formula 1.

Indycar for De Vries?

For instance, the Dutchman is said to be interested in endurance racing, Formula E, but apparently also Indycar. De Vries is said to be named in connection to a possible seat in Indycar next season. Indycar is the American equivalent of Formula 1. Several former F1 drivers who no longer had a claim to a seat in the premier class sought refuge in the United States, such as Romain Grosjean and Marcus Ericsson. Should he make the switch, the driver says goodbye to Europe for the time being, where people had expected him to race mainly in Europe.

However, De Vries is not the only man outside the racing class being linked to a possible entry. For instance, Oliver Askew, Brendon Harley, Jean-Eric Vergne, Sergio Sette Camara and Stoffel Vandoorne are also being named as possible Indycar-rookies. Should Nyck make the switch to Indycar, where he would also find a compatriot there? Rinus van Kalmthout, better known as 'Veekay', drives in the racing class for Ed Carpenter Racing.
