Ferrari change engine components for Leclerc and Sainz in Austria
- Toby McLuskie
Ferrari have come to Austria with a plan to help Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz by changing some of their engine components ahead of the race weekend. The Scuderia added new MGU-Hs, Turbo Chargers and a new exhaust to the cars the two are driving. Current championship leader Max Verstappen has also had some work done ahead of his team's home race.
Verstappen will drive with a new Energy Store (ES) in his RB19 this weekend. Red Bull Racing has opted to install the second battery of the season in Verstappen's car in Austria. Only when the 25-year-old Dutchman needs a third Energy Store this season will a grid penalty follow, so the new ES will not affect his starting position.
Ferrari and the world championship leader are not the only ones whose engine has been fitted with a new part. Some engine parts have also been replaced at Haas F1, Alfa Romeo Racing and AlphaTauri.
New ICEs at Haas F1 and Alfa Romeo
Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen are the two drivers with the most new engine components, namely a new internal combustion engine (ICE), Turbo Charger, MGU-H and a new exhaust. A lot of changes have also been made at Alfa Romeo Racing. Guanyu Zhou and Valtteri Bottas are driving with new combustion engines and a new exhaust. In addition, Bottas has also received new Control Electronics.
At AlphaTauri, De Vries races with a new Energy Store, as do teammate Yuki Tsunoda and thus Verstappen. Japanese Tsunoda has also seen new Control Electronics installed in his AT04.
For none of the drivers, the new engine parts come with a grid penalty.
