England's Hitech Grand Prix wants to compete in Formula 1 from 2026. The team, which created a furore in Formula 2, Formula 3 and Formula 4, says via a press release that it has officially applied to the FIA to do so. The motorsport federation will soon announce whether, and if so, which teams will be allowed to join Formula 1.

Hitech reports that after 20 months of preparation at its home base in Silverstone, the application has been sent to the FIA. The team says admission to Formula 1 would complete the picture for Hitech, and will demonstrate that the English team has the right people and resources to compete with the best in the sport.

Kazakh businessman acquires share of shares

To make the dream a reality, a capital injection has been made by Kazakh businessman Vladimir Kim, who is taking over a quarter of the shares of Hitech Holding - which includes the future F1 branch. Among other things, Kim owns banks and an airline for business flights, and sponsors several tennis players and boxers domestically.

It is still unknown which engine supplier Hitech would want to partner with in an entry into Formula 1. Earlier, Andretti-Cadillac, LKY SUNZ and Formula Equal announced they had signed up for F1.
