Ferrari are going to change tack, according to the Italian branch of Motorsport.com. The Canadian Grand Prix is said to have provided a breakthrough, which has changed plans, and now the Italian team wants to rush through all its budget as soon as possible to make the most of the season.

Ferrari's start to the year was by far the worst in recent years. The team from Maranello currently have 122 points, and the gap to second place in the constructors' championship is 45 points, with Mercedes occupying that spot. Finishing second in the World Championship is still a possibility, but in terms of competitiveness, the next step needs to be realised quickly.

Updates are being accelerated

In Monaco and Spain, things did not go as hoped for Ferrari. The SF23s' tyre degradation was far too high, but in Canada, the team was even better than Red Bull Racing on tyres, according to Helmut Marko. With that being the case, and improvement shown in their performance, Frederic Vasseur has reportedly indicated that the updates should come sooner than originally planned.

All the development budget which was originally earmarked for the second half of the season will now be deployed as soon as possible. This way, Ferrari hope to come up with updates at an earlier stage and pass the other top teams faster.
