Lance Stroll has not yet stood on the podium, Fernando Alonso five times. The two-time world champion stands on 99 points, while his Canadian teammate has to make do with 35. It is a big difference and Mercedes as the new number two among constructors has taken advantage of that. What does Stroll need to change to crawl towards that podium? Alonso tries to provide the answer.

"I think Lance is showing the speed in the car, the commitment. We saw at the beginning of the year as well, racing with broken hands and things like that. You only see when you really have passion for something that you're doing. I think for him, the most important thing now is to get consistency weekend after weekend," the 41-year-old Spaniard said in the press conference ahead of the start of the Canadian weekend.

Stroll needs to become more consistent

On Friday, Saturday AND Sunday, it will rain in Montreal, so there are opportunities for Stroll to do something special. The 24-year-old driver has repeatedly shown in the past that he is very good in the wet and that he can also start well. However, Alonso argues that performing consistently in particular is now priority number one for the next step in his career.

"So I think that consistency is going to be the next step in his career, to be constantly fighting for the top five. And then at the end of the year, you see the amount of points that you gain when you get all the weekends right. But as I said, with the motivation, the commitment that he has, and the team that Aston Martin is building now, I think it's a matter of time before that will come.," he praises his teammate.
