Mick Schumacher has taken a seat back in a Formula One car for the first time since last year's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Following the weekend of the Spanish Grand Prix, Schumacher got behind the wheel of Mercedes once again in Barcelona. The German drove the W14 as part of a tyre test for Pirelli.
Schumacher took over the wheel from George Russell, who was also in the car for the same tests on Tuesday. Schumacher is aiming for a full-time return to the grid next year, but Mercedes boss Toto Wolff recently stated that it is a fairly unlikely situation.
Schumacher wants to race
After two seasons at Haas, the US team opted to drop the German and contract the experienced Nico Hulkenberg for 2023. Schumacher resorted to Mercedes and signed as a reserve driver for the 2023 campaign.
Mercedes have experienced a difficult start to the season, but in Barcelona it drove its most competitive race to date. The team scored its first double podium of this season.
