'Car had to be built up quickly, so qualifying was disappointing'
- Cas van de Kleut
Logan Sargeant's debut season has been very mixed so far. In Bahrain, he showed with a twelfth that he was not driving in Formula 1 to let everyone pass, but after that, the American was involved in many incidents, and his teammate Alexander Albon does have the upper hand within the team. In Barcelona, Sargeant finished 20th.
It was announced in late 2022 that the 22-year-old driver would replace Nicholas Latifi after the man who finished fourth in the Formula 2 championship got enough points for his racing licence.
Problems with tyres
So last weekend, he finished last at the Spanish Grand Prix, and after his final pit stop, he could not make a difference. Indeed, he was slower than his teammate. "I think the first two stints were just as good. It was simply the last one. We were on different compounds so maybe that's something to do with it. Yeah, for sure I need to get better with it but I think the first two were good." Sargeant told GPBlog, among others.
No dent in confidence
Early on during the third free practice, the American crashed in the final corner, leaving his car in need of repairs just before qualifying. According to the Williams driver, it was an expensive mistake: "The car had to be rebuilt within two hours and late into qualifying and the conditions and everything just sort of led up to a not-great qualifying." Sargeant is also clear on whether the mistakes caused a dent in his confidence: "Absolutely not."
