George Russell claimed his first podium of the season at the Spanish Grand Prix, however, it was much to his surprise. The Brit was holding on from Sergio Perez in the closing laps but managed to do so and secured a double podium finish for Mercedes.
"A little surprised for sure [with the podium]," Russell told Nico Rosberg after the race, "kudos to the team for giving me a really great car today."
Mercedes have struggled compared to their rivals, so Russell was extremely happy with the outcome of the race and also what this may hold for the future, he said: "[It was] A fun race for us, starting P12 [and pushing] all the way to P3, a sign of things to come. [The car] It feels better, you're just putting in those lap times and comparing with the guys around us. We were just quicker and quicker, we know we have introduced more downforce and we things are in a better window, pleased to be on the podium."
