Yesterday during free practice ahead of the 107th edition of the Indy 500, Stefan Wilson was injured. The 33-year-old collided with Katherine Legge, after which they both hit the wall. Wilson is in good condition, but will have to skip the race that will take place on Sunday due to a fractured vertebra.

The crash took place in the first corner at the Indianopolis Motor Speedway oval. Legge was driving behind Wilson, who was driving at slower speeds. The woman driving for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Dallara-Honda tapped the Briton, sending them into the wall together. Wilson was taken by stretcher to an ambulance. At this, the 33-year-old driver raised his thumb to the crowd to let them know he was OK.

'Wanted to avoid crash but wasn't enough'

Legge herself was also checked in hospital, but there she was found to be OK. Speaking to NBC Sports, she explained that she did everything she could to avoid Wilson: "The cars in front were all checking up. I lifted as much as I could and downshifted, hit the brakes, but it wasn’t enough as they were checking up. So I ran into the back of Stefan, and we both ended up in the wall.
