Lewis Hamilton has still not renewed his expiring contract at Mercedes. Speaking to ESPN, Toto Wolff explained the current state of negotiations.

Hamilton is currently in his 11th season for the German Racing stable. The Briton managed to become world champion no fewer than six times in the 11 seasons for the team. In total, the Mercedes driver now stands at seven world championships in his Formula 1 career. Should the seven-time world champion take his eighth world title, it would be the record when it comes to world championships in Formula One.

'I want the best for him'

However, Mercedes' car is currently not good enough to compete for the world title, and so there are many rumours that Hamilton might switch to another team. His team boss admits negotiations are not going optimally: "I want the best for him, but in that role I need the best for the team. That can be the only time in our ten or 11 years when we are together and our objectives diverge."
