Mercedes holds the record for most wins in a Formula 1 season with 19, but there is a chance Red Bull Racing could go over that in 2023. Indeed, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez might even win all Grands Prix this year. Christian Horner doubts the latter.

Never before has a team in Formula 1 won all the races, so Horner argues that crossing the line first every Sunday is a huge task. "You have 23 races [still including Imola], street circuits, weather will probably turn up at Silverstone, reliability, strategy, an element of luck. To win 23 races is unimaginable," Horner said.

Mercedes updates

The Austrian racing stable's team boss told The Financial Times he is not at all concerned with records like this. Red Bull is looking at it weekend by weekend. "There are always things that can change. We are heading back into the European season and there are big upgrades coming. If you believe Mercedes, they have a completely new car."

The German racing stable hit the mark again with the W14, but in Imola, Toto Wolff 's formation would come up with a major update package. This would not allow them to directly attack Red Bull Racing again, but at least make them a lot more competitive. The Milton Keynes-based team is also taking other challengers into account.

When Horner is then asked if he believes Mercedes, he laughs: "I am not going to answer that question. Ferrari have upgrades coming and the competition will start to come through. It is very easy to get carried away but there are developments in the pipeline with other teams that will only converge the grid."
