Charles Leclerc has been labelled a possible future World Champion for years. Yet the man who managed to secure the longest ever contract for Ferrari has yet to really make a stab at that world title. Despite the disappointing results, the Monegasque will do everything he can to be able to call himself a world champion one day, he told Italian Rai TG1.

The Ferrari driver currently has five wins in his Formula 1 career. At the start of 2022, it looked as if Charles Leclerc might be aiming high for the championship. However, the Monegasque and his team made many mistakes, allowing Max Verstappen to come back and eventually win the championship by force.

For now, Ferrari has to make do with disappointing results this season. The team from Maranello is fourth in the constructors' championship, behind Red Bull, Aston Martin and Mercedes. The drivers are not doing great either. Carlos Sainz is currently fifth in the championship with 44 points, and Leclerc is seventh with 34 points.

'Dream of driving for Ferrari'

Nevertheless, the driver who became champion in Formula 2 in 2017 is still happy at Ferrari: "One of my dreams was to be a Ferrari driver in Formula 1 and that I realised. But it doesn't stop there. I want to win a world championship, in fact several world championships if possible. And I will do everything until the end of my career."
