Aston Martin has had a fantastic start to 2023. For the British racing stable, finishing second in the constructors' championship this year would be a great achievement, but at the same time, they are in fact already looking ahead. After all, the real goal is the world title and so plans for next season are already in full swing.

The team, which will almost certainly return to the grid in 2024 with Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, says it wants to start developing next year's car as soon as possible. However, it remains difficult for racing teams in Formula 1 to decide when the focus will really turn to the new year. After all, Aston Martin also does not want to run the risk that it will soon finish behind Mercedes and Ferrari in the world championship after all.

Not giving up on 2023

"Absolutely, as soon as possible we want to start working on next year's car. For us, it's really about not sacrificing this year's car," top executive Dan Fallows told AutoHebdo. The chief aerodynamicist, who has been very successful at Red Bull Racing in the past as Adrian Newey's right-hand man, goes on to explain it does not make much sense to neglect further development of the AMR23 at an early stage.

Why? Because the 2024 car will be an "evolution" of this year's bolide. "Anything we can do to get data and updates on this year's car will definitely help. But yes, we want to start as soon as possible," Fallows told the French medium. Currently, Aston Martin is defending a six-point lead over Mercedes and 24 points over Ferrari.
