Carlos Sainz found himself back in third place after qualifying. In a weekend where teammate Charles Leclerc seemed to have the upper hand, it was precisely the Spaniard who made no mistakes and put the Ferrari on the second row. The man starting next to him did cause surprise for Sainz.

During the press conference, Sainz is talking about who the competition for him and his Ferrari team will be in Miami on Sunday, when he asks a question out loud. "Who is behind me?" When the interviewer's answer is that it is Magnussen, Sainz draws a puzzled look. "I don't know. Magnussen. Interesting. Kevin, yes. Strange one, but he sometimes can pull it off like we've seen many times. But yes, I think with Fernando I'm for sure Max will come from behind and will pass us both, is normally what should happen."

Difference at Turn 1

His own battle is likely to be with a compatriot: "I think it will be an interesting start. It's always like that here. I think last year there was quite a difference in taking the inside or outside corner in Turn 1. We'll see how that plays out. I think we are fighting against the Aston Martins."

Like Leclerc, Sainz also struggled at times on the track. "It is very difficult, yes. I had my moments through the high-speed section also in FP3, which kind of confirms that the car around there is just very tricky. We have a very picky car, a very unstable car in the high speed, and this sometimes generates mistakes, in this case accidents. But both Charles and I were trying everything we can to put the car on the limit, to put it where the car deserves to be, which in my opinion this weekend it's just behind the Red Bulls."
