Max Verstappen has said on several occasions that, in view of a number of changes in Formula 1, he may not see a longer stay than the term of his current contract. However, the end date of that contract is still a long, long way off. Christian Horner therefore does not fear an early departure of his star driver.

Verstappen recently criticised the new format of the sprint weekends, a concept the reigning world champion was not a fan of anyway. For instance, he indicated that at some point the fun will go away with such busy weekends.

For now, however, Horner need not worry about a possible departure of the Dutchman. "Thankfully, his contract has many years to run on it, so we don't see that as an imminent risk.  But, of course, he has an opinion on it. He will always speak openly and voice his opinion," the Red Bull team boss revealed at the press conference in Miami.

2028 is still a long way off and, according to Horner, it is quite possible that Verstappen will see things differently by then. "Did Fernando Alonso think he'd be racing at 42? Probably not. Lewis Hamilton is in his latter 30s. So the future is just so difficult to predict. I think it's great that drivers do have opinions and don't just become stereotypes," Horner concluded.
