Sergio Perez is very impressed with Aston Martin's performance this season. Speaking to DAZN, he expressed his expectation that the British team could become another formidable opponent to Red Bull this season.

Perez knows the team pretty well. During the period when the team was known as Force India and then Racing Point, Perez played a crucial role in the team. With five podiums and one win, Perez was an important asset to the team, but when the team changed its name to Aston Martin, Perez's contract was terminated. Despite this, Perez did experience up close how Lawrence Stroll runs the organisation, having worked with the Canadian billionaire for over two years.

"I know it is a team that can go very far," Perez explained. "Lawrence hungers for victory, and he will do everything he can to take Aston Martin to the top. It will certainly be interesting to follow their evolution through the year."

Perez impressed by Alonso

For now, Aston Martin's biggest challenge still comes from Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard has been on the podium alongside both Red Bull drivers for three of the four races this season and managed to secure fourth place in Azerbaijan. Perez, therefore, sees that Alonso is still in the same top form as in previous years.

"In the end, it depends on motivation. Fernando is driving better than ever. F1 is not a question of age, it is a question of motivation, that you are willing to leave everything you have behind in order to compete all year so that your whole life revolves around F1. I think that's the most important thing," Perez said.
