Helmut Marko saw Ferrari run away with pole position in Azerbaijan. The Red Bull Racing advisor is not surprised by this. Only under 'perfect' conditions would a first-place finish have been possible for Max Verstappen or Sergio Perez.

"We knew they were fast over a single lap. Everything should have been perfect for us. The track deteriorated relatively quickly, we probably did not control the tyre pressure properly," Marko explained for the cameras of Austrian television station ORF.

Marko sees plenty of opportunities

Despite a fourth pole in a row in 2023 failing to materialise for the Milton Keynes-based formation, satisfaction prevails. Second place is seen as an excellent starting position for Sunday. "In the second sector we lost relatively a lot, but that doesn't matter. We are on the front row, we should be a lot more competitive in the race."

Verstappen has more than 50 laps to overtake Charles Leclerc in the two days time during the race. In general, the Ferraris have quite a bit more trouble with tyre management and Red Bull has proved better in the longruns this year anyway than in the short qualifying runs.
