Formula E driver Robin Frijns surprised friend and foe on Sunday afternoon by putting his ABT Cupra on pole in Berlin. On a rainy track, the Dutchman was a whopping six-tenths quicker than the competition in qualifying. Teammate Nico Müller was able to put his car P2, with a shock front row lockout for the team. Both drivers were delighted after qualifying in their interviews.

"I didn't expect this after yesterday," Frijns says. "We had a difficult day, and to come back like this with two cars on the front row, I just can't." Usually, Frijns and his ABT Cupra drive at the back of the grid, but after a stunning qualifying, points are now well within reach for the first time this season. " I can just say thank you to the big team. They did a good job, but the weather helped, obviously with the wet, and I did a good lap, so I'm very happy.", said the racing driver beaming from ear to ear.

Hoping for rain

The Dutchman has been going through a difficult time personally too. Due to a broken hand, Frijns had to miss four races this season. "Yeah, it's good to come back like this. Sao Paulo was a bit of a struggle, honestly. But now I feel again what I missed. so it's good." The Cupra man is hoping the weather gods will do one last trick and submerge the track for the race. "The more rain, the better!"

Teammate Nico Muller was also happy with his team's result. "It's pretty incredible after the season we've had so far. It was very tough for everybody involved, but we stuck together and had awesome team spirit going still even in these tough times, and we repay the whole team for their huge efforts at their home race with a good qualifying." The Swiss driver does think the race could be tricky. "It depends a bit on the weather. To be realistic, if it's fully dry, I think it will be tough." The race starts at 3 pm.
