Antonio Perez, father of Red Bull Racing driver Sergio Perez, has responded to suggestions of possible 'sabotage' that would have thrown a spanner in the works of his son's qualifying in Melbourne. The rumour circulated persistently in certain circles of the Mexican's supporters, but Perez sr. dismisses the reports as nothing but "lies, lies, lies".

Perez denies rumours of sabotage

A number of Mexican fans were convinced that Red Bull had sabotaged their hero's RB19 so that Perez would not pose a threat to Max Verstappen. "Lies, lies, lies," reads Perez Sr.'s firm response when asked in an interview on YouTube confronted with the rumours.

Father Perez stresses that the Red Bull brand is much more than 'just' the Formula 1 team and drivers Verstappen and Perez. Moreover, the team has no reason to sabotage its own driver, especially when the latter is second in the drivers' standings. "It is the best team in the world and there is no favouritism to anyone. Everything you hear is pure speculation," Perez assured.

"I think we have to concentrate on the many races ahead," continued Perez, who incidentally also sees no problems between the two Red Bull drivers. "They are both great drivers. Red Bull has the two best players in the field. I hope that more drivers and more teams will compete in the battle for the championship and that it is not just between Checo and Max."
