In a race that saw Lewis Hamilton trail his teammate George Russell from the start, before taking the lead on his own, before falling victim to the charging Red Bull of Max Verstappen. It was a race of mixed emotions for the seven-time world champion. But he believes it's a step in the right direction.

Positive Result

Hamilton crossed the line in second, after a hectic finishing period to the Australian Grandprix which saw two red flags in as many laps. The Brit speaking to Sky Sports was very positive about the result "I feel so happy right. For us to be finishing on the podium is really remarkable. We’ve got a lot of work to do to catch Red Bull because they came flying past and disappeared but hopefully this gives us hope and energy to dig deep and keep pushing."

How fast is Max Verstappen?

When the second-place finisher was asked how quick the Red Bull and Max Verstappen really are, here is how he responded, "Max, he’s in another league, his car is so fast - he passed me halfway down the straight and was several metres ahead going into the corner. I don’t know how they’re so quick down the straights - it’s insane! They’re just in another league."

From one rival to another, Hamilton also had time to reflect on his battle with Fernando Alonso today "The battle is really with Fernando right now. I enjoyed racing with him, like my first race here in 2007"
