Frederik Vesti won the F2 feature race in Saudi Arabia. The Dane stayed cool and took his second Formula 2 victory on behalf of Prema.
The Formula 2 feature race was a spectacular edition with many mistakes by several drivers. Oliver Bearman got away best, after a poor start for the man on pole Victor Martins. However, as in the sprint race, Martins proved to have quite a lot of pace, passing the Briton. Bearman also immediately lost the second spot to teammate Vesti.
Vesti remains calm in Jeddah
Things quickly went downhill for Bearman, as he lost several places after a spin and also ruined his tyres. A podium spot was given away. The other Prema managed to put Martins under pressure, and like Bearman, Martins also made a mistake. The Frenchman spun, lightly collided with the wall and could not continue his race.
A late virtual safety car made things even more exciting with drivers on the alternative strategy. Richard Verschoor, for instance, managed to climb up to sixth place on his soft tyre. An immense achievement from 20th starting spot. Vesti no longer came under pressure, as Jack Doohan did not have the pace to follow him. Jehan Daruvala completed the podium on behalf of MP Motorsport.
Behind the top three, Ayumu Iwasa again finished handsomely in fourth place. The Japanese driver still won the sprint race on Saturday. Dennis Hauger stayed just ahead of the oncoming Verschoor in the closing stages. Enzo Fittipaldi, Arthur Leclerc, Isack Hadjar and Bearman completed the top ten.
