In 2021, Mercedes and Red Bull Racing got into a heated battle. Personally, team bosses Toto Wolff and Christian Horner seemed to be in an equally heated battle. The public bickering between the two is something Ferrari team boss Frédéric Vasseur distanced himself from.

Max Verstappen beat Lewis Hamilton to become champion in 2021, but Mercedes took the constructors' title. The fight mainly took place on the track, but often it went on outside of it as well. Wolff and Horner, as top representatives of both teams, got at each other. The new Ferrari team boss describes the fight between the two team bosses as "a game".

So said Vasseur in conversation with Formel1.de what relations are like between the F1 team bosses and how they change for him as Ferrari boss. Vasseur is on good terms with all the team bosses. Ninety per cent of the time, team bosses are rivals, but inevitably they also have to work together for the good of the sport. According to Vasseur, the cooperation between the teams is currently positive. In doing so, he mentions that he leaves out "the game" between Wolff and Horner.

As team principal of a top team, Ferrari, Vasseur will be more receptive to fiercer confrontations with his rivals at the forefront of F1, but the team boss does not think anyone will ever see him that way: "No, I would never do that. I have a lot of respect for Mr Horner and I have a lot of respect for Toto, but I will never play that kind of game."
