David Sanchez, head of aerodynamics at Ferrari, is rumoured to be leaving the Italian team. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Scuderia already has a replacement in mind. This would be an old acquaintance of Frederic Vasseur, Ferrari's brand-new team boss.

It would involve Alex Cinelli. He was one of the key people behind the Scuderia's glory era from 2000 to 2004. During these years, Michael Schumacher and the Italian stable became World Champions five times in a row. After that, only one other championship was won by the team from Italy.

Since 2019, Cinelli has been at Alfa Romeo, where he has worked with, among others, Vasseur, who was Alfa Romeo's team boss before his role at Ferrari. Before that, he worked at Ferrari for no less than 17 years. So now La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Vasseur would like to bring him back. "The departure of aerodynamicist David Sanchez expands the list of names leaving and opens up the need to intervene in the market. Among others, the name Alex Cinelli has been dropped, whom the team boss knows from his days at Alfa Romeo," reported the newspaper.

It would be a temporary solution, but if Cinelli performs well he could also stay for a longer period. According to the Italian newspaper, Vasseur would enjoy working with someone he knows. Another advantage is that he is already well known in Maranello.
