Richard Verschoor immediately showed on his debut for Van Amersfoort Racing that he can be of immediate value to the Dutch team. Verschoor finished third in qualifying behind ART Grand Prix's men.

Last winter, Verschoor made the switch from Italian Trident to Van Amersfoort Racing. Speaking to GPblog, Verschoor revealed that he still saw Formula 2 as an important goal. After racing in F2 for MP Motorsport, Charouz and Trident, he started talking to Frits van Amersfoort's team and it clicked immediately.

The fact that VAR only debuted in F2 in 2022 and finished second-to-last among constructors did not bother Verschoor much. He saw the potential within the team and hoped to step forward as a driver with the team. The P3 in qualifying also proved that potential, according to Verschoor: ''Definitely. I think the team has a lot of potential," said Verschoor when asked by GPblog during the Bahrain press conference.

"I feel like there is more to reach. More inside the team, more things we can improve. But like today we show that we are capable to be at the top. Our race pace is also looking quite good so I'm looking forward to extracting more from the team and the car."

Verschoor will start Saturday's Formula 2 sprint race from eighth place because of the reverse starting order. In 2022, Verschoor still managed to win that sprint, although he started from second place then. In the main race on Sunday, he will start from third. That is also where the most points will be to be earned.
