The rumour was getting stronger lately, but now it is official: Ford is returning to Formula 1. Ford have confirmed that to Formula1.com.

Ford returns to F1

On the day of Red Bull Racing's presentation unveiling the livery for the RB19, Ford announced that they will make their re-entry into F1. This marks the American car brand's return to the premier class of motorsport after more than 20 years. Red Bull is expected to announce an upcoming partnership with Ford during its 2023 team presentation.

In the 1960s, Ford made its entry into Formula 1. It did so in partnership with Britain's Cosworth, which supplied engines to many different F1 teams over the years. In 1999, Stewart Grand Prix was acquired by Ford, after which the team was renamed Jaguar Racing.

When Ford decided to pull the plug on the F1 project in 2004, the team was put up for sale. It was sold to Red Bull and from the following racing season the team went through life as Red Bull Racing.
