Vasseur reacts to Ferrari news
There is a veritable game of musical chairs going on within Formula 1. Whereas this is normally the case with drivers every year, this time it is the team boss market that is upside down. The announced departure of Mattia Binotto at Ferrari was followed on Monday by the announcement that Jost Capito is stepping down from Williams.
Reports also surfaced of Andreas Seidl turning his back on Mclaren. Soon after, Alfa Romeo announced Vasseur's departure and then Ferrari's official announcement was not long in coming. The 54-year-old Frenchman cannot wait to start at the Scuderia.
"I am truly delighted and honoured to take over the leadership of Scuderia Ferrari as Team Principal. As someone who has always held a lifelong passion for motorsport, Ferrari has always represented the very pinnacle of the racing world to me," Vasseur revealed in a statement on the Ferrari's official website.
He continued: "I look forward to working with the talented and truly passionate team in Maranello to honour the history and heritage of the Scuderia and deliver for our Tifosi around the world."
Ferrari pleased with Vasseur's arrival
Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna also welcomed the news, saying he welcomes Vasseur with open arms: "Throughout his career he has successfully combined his technical strengths as a trained engineer with a consistent ability to bring out the best in his drivers and teams. This approach and his leadership are what we need to push Ferrari forward with renewed energy."
