Lando Norris is grateful that he got to experience several more seasons with Sebastian Vettel. The German ended his Formula 1 career last month and was also a very great role model for the Briton, Norris stressed in conversation with Sky Sports.
According to the driver, he could learn a lot from the four-time world champion in terms of his driving skills. However, Vettel also managed to teach him things in other areas. For instance, Norris feels Vettel is a great example of how to handle his notoriety.
The former Aston Martin driver used the attention during and outside race weekends to highlight social issues. It earned Vettel a lot of support from society, while Norris wants to follow suit.
"I think probably one of the most important things is, nowadays, it's not so much about what you do on track, it's the off-track stuff," Norris argues. "That is just as important now, in many ways, the influence we can have on youngsters, on the new audience that we have in Formula 1."
Norris sees Vettel as role model
Norris feels he could eventually be a second Vettel. "I'm maybe a bit more shy than what Seb is and has been in Formula 1, but I'll learn. It's about speaking the truth, speaking about honesty and standing for your opinions, and not just about racing things."
