Although Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen have already won the world titles, there is still plenty to look forward to this weekend. For instance, Ferrari and Mercedes are still fighting for second place in the constructors' championship, while Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc are still battling each other for P2 among the drivers. The rivals arrived in Abu Dhabi with an equal number of points similar to how Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton arrived at this circuit last season. Also further down the grid, there are still a number of places to be won.
Verstappen not in action in FP1
After the sprint race in Brazil and the 2023 tyre tests in Austin and Mexico, two normal free practice sessions will just take place again on Friday in Abu Dhabi. Several new faces will be seen during FP1, as Formula 1 drivers make way for a number of rookies. For instance, Max Verstappen will relinquish his RB18 to Liam Lawson. Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris, Fernando Alonso among others will also have to watch in FP1. This liveblog will be completed in English.
