For Mick Schumacher, his career in Formula 1 is coming to an end (for now?), after just two seasons. Earlier today, Haas announced it was replacing the German for a compatriot, namely Nico Hulkenberg. That means Schumacher will have to look for a new challenge.

Although it had been known for some time that Schumacher would be replaced, the youngster still reacted with disappointment. "I don't want to hide the fact that I am very disappointed about the decision not to renew our contract. Nevertheless, I would like to thank both Haas and Ferrari for giving me this opportunity. Those years together have helped me mature both technically and personally," he wrote on his Twitter channel.

Schumacher hopes to return to F1 soon. "Especially when things got difficult, I realised how much I love this sport. It was at times bumpy but I steadily improved, learned a lot and now know for sure that I deserve a place in Formula 1. The subject is anything but closed for me. Setbacks only make you stronger."

It is still unclear what Schumacher will do next. The obvious option is for him to become a test and reserve driver somewhere. Mercedes would be happy to contract him for that. That is on condition that Daniel Ricciardo does not accept the offer to join Mercedes. It seems the Australian is opting for a similar role at Red Bull Racing.
