After the sprint race for the Brazilian Grand Prix, it is now time for the main race at Interlagos. Mercedes proved to be the fastest team and will start on the front row of the grid on Sunday. Can Lewis Hamilton and George Russell keep the rest of the field behind them, or will Max Verstappen still manage to come back?

Mercedes from pole position

It was not Ferrari or Red Bull Racing that managed to secure pole position on Friday, but Kevin Magnussen. However, the Haas driver was soon passed in the sprint race and will start from eighth position on Sunday. Verstappen appeared to have a disadvantage in the sprint, as the Dutchman was the only driver to start on medium tyres, along with Nicholas Latifi. In the end, Verstappen proved unable to keep up with the pace of the competition. Russell overtook his rival for victory, while Carlos Sainz and Hamilton also passed the two-time world champion.

Mercedes will go all out on Sunday to win the main race as well. Due to Carlos Sainz's grid penalty, the front row of the grid will be Russell and Hamilton. Red Bull will hunt from P3 and P4. Verstappen may have a strategic advantage, as the Red Bull driver has a set of soft tyres left over from the competition. Whether the Dutchman can really take advantage of this remains to be seen, as tyre degradation is high for the RB18.

Ferrari will also want to enter the fray from fifth and seventh positions. Qualifying was particularly dramatic for Charles Leclerc after the Monegasque was the only driver on the grid to be sent out on intermediates. In the sprint race, Leclerc was able to make up some places, but his last win has been a long time coming. This liveblog will be completed in English.
