Sergio Perez is one World Championship point adrift of Charles Leclerc in the battle for second place in the standings. It could also have been two had Max Verstappen passed his Mexican teammate in the closing stages in Brazil. Mattia Binotto does not understand Red Bull Racing 's failure to do so.

"I am very surprised that at Red Bull they did not switch positions. It seemed a very simple and logical thing to do, but they didn't do it," Binotto told Sky's Italian branch. Ferrari calls the battle for P2 in the World Championship very important for Leclerc. "Given the season Charles has had, the way he started, coming second would be a nice goal and we are looking forward to it as well. We will do everything we can to get him in the best possible condition to try to achieve that."

Red Bull's plan

Carlos Sainz finished second at the Interlagos circuit and that was partly due to a failed strategy at Red Bull. However, Binotto thinks there is more behind Red Bull's plan. According to the Italian formation's team boss, who incidentally is not present in Brazil himself, putting Verstappen on mediums is part of a strategic plan.

"I think Max used the mediums today to have an extra set of softs tomorrow. We saw in FP2 this morning that the red compound tyres behaved better than the mediums, we had already noticed that with Charles. Let's see tomorrow how they behave and who can exploit them more," Binotto said.
